Known as the father of modern boxing long before the title was allocated to James Corbett, the legendary Jem Mace made a name for himself in the bare-knuckle world through the general adoption of the Queensberry Rules in his latter career. Presented is a truly superb 9x14 period premium featuring a detailed engraving as well as biographical and pugilistic information of the English champ nicknamed “Gypsy.” . Neatly affixed to a period mat which lines and protects the edges, the clean, blank-backed premium, which can be dated to very shortly after his final fight, against Bill Davis in 1887, has survived exceptionally well given its age and size. Ideal for the pugilist enthusiast, this seldom-seen boxing relic will contend for the cornerstone position in any collection.
