This 1909 World Series panoramic was produced by Pittsburgh studio R. W. Johnston to commemorate the epic battle between the Detroit Tigers and Pittsburgh Pirates. Measuring 40 x 5-1/2, this black-and-white multi-panel postcard depicts 50 players/executives including Hall of Famers Clarke, Cobb, Crawford, Dreyfuss, Jennings and Wagner. Although this framed artifact reveals moderate surface soiling, two clipped corners, an approximately 2” tear above Cobb’s image, creasing, and other layering and notching, the overall eye appeal is not affected. Because this piece appears to have been affixed to a period cardboard backing, it is unknown if it is postally unused. A tremendous display item featuring the “Georgia Peach”, “Flying Dutchman” and recent Cooperstown Inductee Barney Dreyfuss.
