Pioneer, humanitarian and Hall of Famer are but a few descriptors that commonly honor Jackie Robinson and Roberto Clemente. Presented is a pair of signed items that represents these benchmark players. Included are 1.) dated 6/19/48 Jackie Robinson (d.1972) signed personal check. This cancelled artifact was drawn from a New York bank. The blue ink signature is not adversely affected and grades a (“9”); 2.) circa 1955-1956 Roberto Clemente (d.1972) signed cut. This early pencil signature grades an impressive (“7”). Clemente is joined by four common teammates on this 2 x 3-1/2 scrap. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentications.
Clemente's signature was
obtained during Roberto's rookie season. Other signatures on the slip
will indicate that it was his rookie season. The signatures were obtained in person, by our consignor, when he was young, but he was aware that it was Roberto's rookie season.
Also, the brochure framed with the signatures is a brochure obtained when a
donation was made to a fund that Roberto headed where a sports complex
was being developed in San Juan, PR for underprivileged children. The entire
brochure is framed. A description of the project, with diagrams of the sports complex are included. Artist conception of Roberto is on the front cover.
