Description

Combining for a total of four Super Bowl Titles and five NFL Championships, Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry were masters at getting the most out of their players. Offered is pair of signed items from these Hall of Fame coaches. Included are 1.) dated 11/22/59 Vince Lombardi (d.1970) signed Packers check. The blue ink signature is not adversely affected and grades an (8). Dominic Olejniczak, Packers team president and Green Bay mayor, also signed the check; 2.) dated 2/13/89 Tom Landry (d.2000) signed letter on Cowboys letterhead. This letter of thanks is sharply signed by Landry and grades a (9). Auction LOA from James Spence Authentications.

Date of Letter 2-13-89 was the date that Landry confronted Tex Schram indicating that he would coach into the 90's. Jerry Jones was taking over and wanted Landry out. He wanted Jimmy Johnson as the coach. Content of the letter, that is being sold, reflects that Landry was in conflict. The Landry letter was in response to our consignor's letter of support, respect and friendship. Landry was forced out on 2-25-89, 12 days after the Landry letter was written. This letter might have been one of the last pieces Landry completed as a Dallas Cowboy.
