“The Old Fox”, “The Big Train” and “The Bambino” have little in common except their enshrinement in Cooperstown, NY. It is an unlikely trio to sign the same baseball, yet amazingly, such a baseball is presented in this lot for the collector who specializes in the unique and exceptional. The Wilson Boys Amateur Baseball is relatively clean with minimal scuffmarks and toning and no stitching issues. Clark Griffith (d.1955, “4”) signed the sweet spot in green steel fountain tip, while Johnson (d.1946, “7”) signed the north panel and Ruth (d.1948, “7-8”) penned the south, both in black steel fountain tip pen. Though the Griffith signature is less legible, the Ruth and Johnson signatures boldly stand out, mirroring the exceptional quality and rarity of this ball. This superior piece of memorabilia comes with a full LOA from James Spence Authentications.
